Identity & belonging

A body-first place to meet the patterns that shape belonging.

Identity is not only a story we tell. It is also lived through breath, pace, the impulse to reach or pull away, and the ways we stay alert, go quiet, or push through. This work gently builds room for connection, choice, and self-trust.

01

When belonging feels complicated

Adoption, racial or cultural identity, family change, and relational loss may be felt as bracing, numbness, urgency, disconnection, or difficulty settling. You do not need to force those experiences into words before beginning.

02

Begin with the body

We start with present-moment information: sensation, breath, posture, movement, impulses, and nervous-system cues. Together, we notice protective attachment patterns and practice supportive ways to respond.

03

Identity-informed support

Maria’s perspective is informed by her lived experience as a Black, biracial, transracial adoptee, alongside ongoing study in somatic attachment and transgenerational trauma.

04

A practical, paced process

Sessions follow your capacity in the moment and may include body-based inquiry, breath, movement, orienting, and practical regulation practices for daily life, relationships, boundaries, and choices.

Common questions

A clear, grounded place to begin.

Is this therapy?

No. This is educational and experiential somatic support, not diagnosis, treatment, or a substitute for licensed mental health care.

Do I need to talk in detail about my history?

No. Your story matters, but the work does not depend on extensive verbal processing. It can begin with what is present now in the body.

Is this only for adoptees?

No. This space is for people exploring embodied patterns connected to identity, belonging, attachment, relationship, or life transitions.

What might a session include?

Guided attention to sensation, breath, posture, movement, orienting, and simple resourcing practices. The process is collaborative and paced.

There is room to begin with what is here now.
